‘The Blacklist’ spoilers: Ryan Eggold on Tom Keen’s constant evolution

The Blacklist logo any seasonTonight, “The Blacklist” will air an episode in “The Pavlovich Brothers” that does more than just introduce new villains into the show and deliver a story of the week: It will also give you at least a few additional pieces of information when it comes to the character of Tom Keen.

Who is this man of great mystery? That is something we are learning more about during tonight’s episode, but regardless of whatever the show explains, it’s still not going to be the end of the book on this guy. Rather than having a character with a concrete past to the point where there is nothing left to learn about him, the goal is for the character to continue to shift and evolve. Ryan Eggold says as much in an Entertainment Weekly interview talking about the role:

“The beauty of this show – at least for my character and for Red certainly – they’re never going to put a pin in the character and be like that’s him, that’s what he does, that’s who he is. They’re going to keep evolving.”

In the end, don’t ever really expect for things to stop shifting for this character, and the beauty of that is that Tom being continually mysterious gives him a longer shelf life. In turn, this could help him stay alive and a part of the show. Given that Reddington and Liz Keen are not going anywhere (given they are the focal point of everything), he is probably the most expendable of the three people at the center of the show. (With that being said, he’s still a step above most of the members of the FBI.)
