‘Britain’s Got Talent’ preview: James Smith reinvents an often-overdone song
When you hear that someone is performing the song “Feeling Good” on a talent competition, there is almost a certain instinct to want to groan in response to it. There are few songs out there in the universe that have been overdone to the same extent that this one has, and there are very few ways in which you can actually do this song in a way that hasn’t been done at some point in the past.
Somehow, James Smtih on “Britain’s Got Talent” has managed to figure it out, and he even did so despite only being 15 years old. It’s a sly acoustic arrangement that shows that not only does he have style, but he also has stage presence and the artistry needed to be a star. We’re a little shocked that he is on this show rather than “X Factor,” since there is no reason to think that he lacks the potential to be a huge star. Simon Cowell has long been looking for a British Justin Bieber, and maybe this can be it minus the trouble with the law, the tattoos, or the general bad attitude that we’ve seen from the Biebs for some time.
Before that happens, James does need to get a full round of “yes” votes from the judges, but we have a feeling that this is not going to be that hard of a challenge for him.
What do you think: Does James have the potential to be a real “Britain’s Got Talent” contender? Share your thoughts below, and click here to see another preview for this episode. We’ll be back later with a full review of the hour, so be on the lookout for that.
