‘The Following’ season 2 finale spoilers: Could Ryan Hardy, Joe Carroll work together?
All season long on “The Following,” we have expected there to be an epic showdown to take place at the end between two of the show’s characters in Ryan Hardy and Joe Carroll. In many ways, they are the Batman and Joker of the series. As much as we want to see Joe be defeated so that Ryan can move on and there can be a new big bad, it probably won’t happen. Without the two of them on the show together, one’s effectiveness could be lessened.
The biggest surprise to us abut the upcoming finale “Forgive” is that instead of it looking like there will be a showdown between Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy’s characters, we are instead going to see the two of them seemingly work together in order to protect Claire, who revealed herself to Joe as being still alive in last night’s episode. Take a look at the synopsis below:
“Mark and Luke (Sam Underwood) turn the tables on both Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), forcing the two sworn enemies to come together to save the woman they love.”
The biggest surprise to us is mostly that Claire is even still around. The fact that she’s seemingly captured (maybe by two twins seeking vengeance) is something that is a little less of a shock. As strong as Sam Underwood has been over the past several episodes, we don’t really get the impression that the writers will work as hard to keep his roles around as Ryan and Joe. Somebody has to die in the finale, right? Everyone making through it alive would be the biggest surprise of all.

The show needs to go back to its roots. Not knowing who was good or bad was the best thing about the show. Joe’s character was more a puppet this season, rather than the controlling serial killer we came to know, that all needs to change season 3 for the show to survive.
To make give the show more sizzle. Embed moles in the FBI, to throw of Ryan & Co. and make Joe more evil and controlling, or make him like Silence of the Lambs character type.
Oh yes, the person in the truck picking up the twin was the TV reporter??

Move onto some other serial killer. Joe character is getting old and starting to get unbelievable. I’m bored. Love the first season, the second season is ok. Bring a skeleton out of Ryan’s closet for season 3. Please please please end joe and all the followers. You can only drag it out for so long. Move on!!!!!!
