‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 spoilers: Talking Negan … and Jon Hamm?

More news -There is one surefire sign to know that you have a hit TV show and a hit comic book at the same time: When you have people talking about prospective casting for a character who you have not even confirmed will be a part of the show, who is featured prominently in the books.

With this being said, it’s practically a foregone conclusion that Negan will probably be a part of “The Walking Dead” show at some point. He’s too popular and notorious a person to be forgotten. We’re terrified to really say almost anything else about him at all here, mostly because of the idea that we would be ruining the story for a couple of people still in the dark.

What we will say is this: Robert Kirkman was asked about casting possibilities for the role recently in an MTV News interview, and the name Jon Hamm came up. His response? In one way true, and also funny:

“He’s not tall enough! That’s a joke. I think Jon Hamm would be perfect. I think after ‘Mad Men’ has run, Jon Hamm is going to have a Tom Hanks level film career, so I don’t think he’ll be coming back to television anytime soon. Although that would be cool!

“As far as Negan casting goes, Scott and I are always talking about who we would put in that, it’s definitely on our minds, and there are definitely a lot of candidates. But I wouldn’t expect Negan too terribly soon, although he is definitely in the plan. It’s a 99% lock that he’s going to be in the show eventually, so be on the lookout for that.”

Personally, we don’t want to see Hamm in the role for the simple reason that sticking him on an AMC show will inevitably bring to mid Don Draper. That’s why we would have a hard time seeing someone like Bryan Cranston come over and be an ad executive on “Mad Men.” We’re going to have a hard enough time thinking about Michael Chiklis on “American Horror Story” after he did “The Shield.”

We’d be surprised if Negan surfaced at all in the first half of season 5, but never say never that Kirkman and Scott Gimple could pull a fast one and change some things up with the characters. It wouldn’t be the first time.
