There is a ‘Battlestar Galactica’ movie being made; the catch?

Syfy -While we tend to shy away from covering movie news here at CarterMatt, there is an exception here and there: When we are talking about popular shows being made into movies.

The reason that we’re talking about a potential “Battlestar Galactica” film now is mostly to wave a giant flag and warn you that this is not the story you are hoping for. This is not a continuation of the beloved Syfy project at all. Instead, Variety reports that this movie is being thought of as a completely new imagining of the beloved TV show. That means a different cast, and also a different story … even if it does have many of the same elements. Ron Moore, the man behind the 2003 show, is not attached in any way.

So feel free to now express your comments of disdain. We’re ultimately torn about this. Syfy clearly wasn’t going to give the show a chance on TV again in the near future, regardless of how beloved it was. Who knows? Maybe this is a way to give the franchise new life, and eventually bleed into a new season someway. With there being no “Star Trek” show on right now and with “Firefly” long gone, we need more space operas. The fear here is that it will disappear into the shadow of “Star Wars: Episode VII,” and also suffer from the fact that there are enormous expectations that will have a hard time being met.

With all this in mind, we’re going to keep a close watch on this, just in case there is something great that somehow comes out of this idea.
