‘Supernatural’ season 9 spoilers: How Misha Collins returns (to acting) in ‘Meta Fiction’

Check it out -While Misha Collins had a big week on “Supernatural” thanks to him directing the episode “Mother’s Little Helper,” it was not so much a big week for Castiel. Specifically, he wasn’t there at all, and has kind of been off and on for most of the past few episodes this season.

Just in case the recent promo for the April 15 episode “Meta Fiction” (the next time the show is on the air) didn’t convince you enough that Castiel is going to be back in action, the synopsis below will. It also confirms the return of two important recurring guest stars, and another sign that the journeys of Cas and the Winchester brothers are on a collision course:

“Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) attempts to get Castiel (Misha Collins) to join forces with him. Still furious with Metatron, Castiel (Misha Collins) refuses, which sets a surprising plan in motion.  Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) capture Gadreel (Tahmoh Penikett).”

First of all, why in the world would Metatron think that Castiel would suddenly want to be buddy-buddy with him? Has he ignored most of what has happened the past few months thanks to his “King of the Nerds” hosting gig? (Hey, if the episode has “Meta” in the title, we have the right to get a little bit meta, too.) We’re happy to see Curtis back on the show regardless, and we know that Tahmoh can do some really awesome stuff, even if we haven’t gotten a chance to see nearly as much of him this season as we would have have liked.

We do still wonder about titling this “Meta Fiction,” since that at least suggests that there will be some sort of narrative twist at play here (unless, of course, we are talking about a red herring).
