‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10 spoilers: Gaius Charles, Tessa Ferrer to leave before season 11

When “Grey’s Anatomy” is inevitably renewed for an eleventh season a little later in the year, it will have to move forward without two of the actors who were a big part of it over the past season and a half.

According to a report from Deadline, Gaius Charles and Tessa Ferrer, who played Shane and Leah, respectively on the series, have both been written out of the upcoming 11th season. This means that there will be something coming up that causes the two to depart the show. We doubt sincerely that it will be some other sort of freak accident that kills them, mostly because there are other ways to do that beyond just having someone electrocuted or crushed by an airplane.

There was no reason given for this move, whether it be financial or due to the actors or producers’ own desire to move on. All we hope is that this allows Charles and Ferrer an opportunity to move forward into pilot season. We especially have loved Gaius on both “Friday Night Lights” and his brief role on “Pan Am,” and he can do so much more than what we saw from his character on this show at times. Shane ultimately has a little bit of a reputation for being a creeper … at least as of late.

Meanwhile, the exit of Ferrer’s Leah will mean that there is no other woman standing in the way of the Callie / Arizona relationship. Jessica Capshaw’s character had a brief fling to her, which led in turn to her issuing a complaint with the hospital board … and consequently a policy that stated that there would be no more fraternization between unmarried doctors and interns on staff.

These two join Sandra Oh in leaving the show, though Cristina’s departure has been known all season long. It may even be touched on during “Do You Know,” which is the new episode airing on Thursday.
