‘The Good Wife’ season 5: Josh Charles tells David Letterman about Will’s exit, future

Late ShowJosh Charles has been in the headlines the past 48 hours perhaps ore than at any other point in his career, and it’s all due to what happened to his character of Will Gardner on “The Good Wife.” If you are reading this article, you probably know that Will was killed off at the end of this past episode “Dramatics, Your Honor,” and it came courtesy of shots fired in the courtroom.

Somehow, there is still a positive that comes off of your character being brutally murdered on a TV show: Getting to sit down with David Letterman to talk all about it. Dave rarely acts like the host for any CBS-related aftershow, but there were a few minutes on “The Late Show” last night where he did ask specific questions about Charles’ exit fro the show and how it went down. Most of this was old news by the time the show aired: Josh wanted to leave, and thanks to that, he and the writers figured out a way for him to do these 15 episodes this season before sending the character out.

As for what is next for Charles, he really doesn’t know. He says that he wants to do more directing, and he is still around the set of “The Good Wife” thanks to an episode that he has been working on as of late. Who knows? It’s always possible that he could return again for more work there in some capacity moving forward. Charles strikes us as a guy who simply likes to do other things as much as we can, so the next time that we could see him, it will probably be in a very different capacity than what we saw him in here.

You can see what some of Charles’ fellow cast members had to say about his passing at the link here. Meanwhile, sign up to get some more updates from us on all the TV we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
