‘The Good Wife’ season 5, episode 16 preview: How Julianna Margulies, cast move forward

The latest -Just in case you were still trying to wipe the tears from your eyes after last night’s episode of “The Good Wife” (which is perfectly understandable), we hate to bring even more sadness upon you. But, the promo for the upcoming “The Last Call” may help you to reflect more on the loss of the Will character.

This episode will feature Josh Charles making what is presumably his final appearance on the show as Will, as you get more context as to what happened with him and the other characters in the moments leading up to him being gunned down inside a courthouse. He will still be back later this season to direct an episode, but this may be where his time as an actor ends. (Charles will address his exit on TV for the first time during an interview on “The Late Show with David Letterman.”)

The events of “Dramatics, Your Honor” are something that we really should have seen coming a mile away, and for some many reasons. Why? First foremost, CBS didn’t really promote any episode beyond it, and they typically issue press releases for every episode a couple of weeks out. The fact that they didn’t do that here was a sign of big things coming up. Also, you had the fact that Charles has originally only signed a four-year deal to be on the show, and later decided to come back for a fifth. That is very unusual for a network drama, which typically signs up all series regulars to a contract lasting six seasons.

We will get an opportunity soon to really see what “The Good Wife” looks like for Julianna Margulies and company without having Will on board, but it may not be this coming week. You’ll have to wait for the show to get a little bit of distance for that.
