‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3, episode 13 review: The Regina / Wicked Witch connection is…

Earlier this season on “Once Upon a Time,” there was all sorts of scoop regarding the family tree for all of our favorite characters expanding. This is quite the strange family when you think about it, mostly because everyone seems to be in some way related to the other. Even if they aren’t a blood relation, they probably know somebody with at least some sort of tie.

So on Sunday night’s new episode “Witch Hunt,” what we learned was the biggest and least-shocking news of the entire season: Regina and the Witch share the same mother in Cora. For whatever reason, the Queen of Hearts never bothered to inform her youngest daughter that she had an older sister out there. The Witch’s sole motivation right now seems to be to completely destroy the Evil Queen, and take away every little thing that she loves.

As fascinating a villain as Zelena may be, there is still an issue: What in the world does the Witch really gain from all of this? Why work to make someone who is already miserable enough to drink a sleeping potion even more miserable? Why bring Rumpelstiltskin back from the depths of despair and lock him up in a cage? Given that Regina has never met the woman, we don’t understand the logic in wanting to destroy her.

Aside from this, “Witch Hunt” was entertaining enough. It was nice to see Meghan Ory back in the picture as Red, and it was also nice to find out a little more about the relationship between Regina and Robin Hood. Seeing Henry get to see everything in Storybrooke for the first time is also a nice, interesting touch.

We at least now know the key components that set up the rest of the season, and the real challenge now is figuring out where to go from here. Grade: B.
