NBC’s ‘The Voice’ preview: See Adam Levine, Aloe Blacc work together in battle rounds
We’ve made no secret of the way in which we feel about the battle rounds on “The Voice.” Namely, there are few parts of any singing competition that we like less. It’s typically-bloated, often-unneeded, and it puts contestants in something that they would never actually do on a regular basis. There has yet to be a single battle that we would actually want to listen to on the radio.
But (takes deep breath), that is just our take on the battles. There are other people who enjoy them very much, and we will at least give the show credit for getting some good musician advisers for the new season … and one of them is Aloe Blacc. The guy has a voice like no other, and is as current as current comes. That’s what is great about the people that Mark Burnett and “The Voice” get: They actually know what is happening in the industry today compared to ten years ago.
In the video below, you can see Aloe trying his best to hand out advice to some of the show’s rising stars, while we also try to see Adam Levine try to bring Hawaiian shirts back as a fashion trend. There are some good performance teases in here by battle round standards, in particular the one that looks to be the most upbeat and fun. This is a battle we could genuinely get behind!
If you don’t like these rounds, just flash-forward a few weeks. The live shows are not that far away, and that is where we can potentially see the real star-making performances that so many people love. Who is the favorite? Given her experience and her following already, we’d have to give it to Christina Grimmie. But, it is early, and many things can change.
