NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Caleb Elder, Lindsay Bruce, Kaleigh Glanton end blind auditions
After many weeks of good performances, Blake doing that same ol’ finger-pointing thing, and the occasional sad story, “The Voice” ended its blind auditions Tuesday night with at least some artists who could make it pretty far. While there were not many opportunities for multiple coaches to turn around, there was still at least one four-chair turn.
With this last round of auditions, we are doing the same exact thing that we have for the entire phase of the competition: Sorting them in order of which coach they all selected.
Team Adam Levine
Caleb Elder – Caleb closed the blind auditions actually, and turned out to be just what Adam was looking for. It took a while to get to him, but it was worth to wait! This is one of the best performances of Adam’s team from our vantage point, actually … and he could be a potential sleeper in this.
Team Blake
Kaleigh Glanton, “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” – The first audition of the night to get a turn just so happened to be the one that got four chairs. Was it worthy of that? Well … not really. Kaleigh was pretty good, but she didn’t really bring enough vocally to the table.
Team Shakira
Lindsay Bruce, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” – Lindsay’s story about 9/11 was enough to break our heart before this performance even started … and then we realized that she was actually really good. Her voice is a little nasally, but there was also a really good commercial tone here. This is something that we could imagine on the radio. Seeing her pick Shakira over Adam? Once again, a surprise.
Team Usher
Brittnee Camelle, “Skyscraper” – This is a very difficult song for anyone to try to sing. There are some serious high notes, and also an essence of emotional vulnerability. So to see her pick Usher over Shakira? Somewhat surprising, mostly because of the sole fact that everyone else was in the process of campaigning for her to join the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer. Episode Grade: B-.
