‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9: Cristin Milioti addresses ‘crazy’ Mother theory

Another look -If you have watched “How I Met Your Mother” over the past several weeks, then odds are you are well aware of what has become one of the biggest theories out there regarding the show: Whether or not the Mother is really still alive while Ted is telling his story to their kids.

For a long time, we didn’t subscribe to the idea that this could be true … mostly because the whole notion of it seemed to be so far out there that it was pretty hard to consider. However, what has changed for us came courtesy of last week’s “Vesuvius,” a story in which Ted seemed to be particularly emotional at the idea of a mother not being there for a child’s wedding. There were some who took that to mean that his mother had died, whereas others suggested that this was because his wife was suffering from some sort of terminal disease.

So what does Milioti herself think of all this? She spoke recently about the subject to The Hollywood Reporter, but what we find particularly interesting about all of this comes to us via a matter of word choice. Rather than actually confirm or deny the theories, she simply uses adjectives as “crazy” and “insane” to discuss what fans have thrown out there. It’s unclear whether or not this interview was conducted before or after “Vesuvius,” and even if the character is in fact dying or dead, she would never be able to fully address that with the public. It’s just interesting that she speaks about it like it is a far-off possibility, when we know now that it could realistically be something that we are meant to think about.

What do you think both about the theory, and about the interesting response that Cristin has to it?
