‘Girls’ season 3, episode 10 review: Did Hannah or Adam (or both) go too far?

Girls -One of the biggest reasons why we enjoy “Girls” as a series for the most part is fairly simple: While we may not like some of the characters all of the time, they at least remind us of people that we know. We laugh at them because we’ve been there, or we know people who are like that.

However, tonight may have been the show’s biggest bridge too far to date. It was just so … bizarre. And uncomfortable. We really don’t understand what the point of this was, since it felt like a really off-kilter sitcom plot that made Hannah come across as very unlikable at times, and quite frankly crazy.

But, you have to also ask the question as to what drove Hannah to do this. After all, she was feeling alone and abandoned by Adam, and a part of this may also have been caused by all of the insecurity plugged into her by her family that he would abandon her the moment he made it big on the stage. We just don’t understand why there was never any conversation had about any of this. Had there been, maybe a good percentage of all of this mess could have been avoided.

Adam choosing to go stay with Ray for a while, an interesting arrangement giving the dog incident, was the only moment here where it was somewhat easy to sympathize with Hannah; but still, her deciding that it would be a good idea to wear a blonde wig and pretend to be someone else to get his attention was beyond fathoming for this show, especially her whole “causing a scene on the street” bit.

The thing is, we don’t mind watching “Girls” and not feeling all the time as though with like Hannah or the other characters. However, we do feel like we do still need to relate to them in some way to get something out of this. Since this is not a show that relies solely on humor, we need the emotional connection; sadly, this was lacking in that department all across the board, and the few scenes with Jessa and the other characters could not fully save it. They just bring the total up to a passing grade. Grade: C-.
