‘Glee’ season 5, episode 10 review: Sam – Tina surprise, Rachel and Santana fight

Glee -At the end of “Glee” season 5 last week, we saw what was the beginning of a massive fight between Rachel and Santana unfold, stemming from the latter trying to become her understudy in “Funny Girl.” Neither one to admit for most of the episode that they had done anything wrong … until (of course) the power of song came into the picture and caused the ice to start to melt a little bit.

Is it safe to say that Rachel and Santana are suddenly smooth sailing again? We wouldn’t go that far. The two have a long ways to go if they want to get to the place where they can be happy again. But, there was at least a little progress.

While all of this was happening, there was all sorts of crazy stuff happening back in McKinley High. Tina, Sam, and Blaine were taking part in all sorts of senior activities as they prepared to say goodbye to the school that they have come to know and love over the years. Somehow, this led to Sam and Tina briefly hooking up, which didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Wasn’t Sam hooking up with the school nurse the last time that we saw him? Why abandon that storyline?

Speaking of storylines coming and going, why has this show relegated Demi Lovato to basically nothing for the vast majority of the past few weeks? Seeing her turn up again tonight mostly felt awkward, largely because her character has been by and large nonexistent.

In the midst of all the great performances and Adam Lambert being Adam Lambert, we really wanted to enjoy “Trio” more than we did. There are just so many little things about the show now that aren’t making a whole lot of sense, and these little annoyances are causing the thrill of graduation and Nationals and Emma’s plans to have a baby to not be as great as they could have otherwise been. Grade: C.
