‘The Amazing Race 24’ preview: Mark, Mallory, and the backpack dilemma

On Sunday night’s new episode of “The Amazing Race 24,” you are going to see new team Mark & Mallory at a crossroads that could very well determine if they stay in the race or not. Mark left his backpack at a previous location in China, and he has to figure out whether or not he wants to go back and get it.

Here is what the situation could be for Mark here. Theoretically, he could continue on with it if he so chooses, and race without anything other than the clothes on his back. Not only does Mallory already have his passport, but she even has some of the medication that he needs for his carsickness. The only real reason that he would need something in there would be if they go to a cold climate, and he needs to get something warmer to wear that he doesn’t have to take out of his budget for each leg of the race.

Based on the conflict that we see in the sneak peek video below, we are actually firmly with Mallory on this one. Going back could cost them the race, so you’re better off just racing with the clothes that you have on you. Who cares if you get sweaty and smelly? It’s for a million bucks! Plus, that makes for a much more interesting story arc running around with no backpack versus going back because you felt like you needed a change of clothes.

Either way, it probably doesn’t matter since these two are not long for the race, anyway. Neither one of them knows the other well enough, and that will likely lead to all sorts of personality clashes and conflicts over patience.
