‘Saturday Night Live’: Colin Jost, Cecily Strong talk new ‘Weekend Update’ gig

More news -This weekend marks a time of big change for “Saturday Night Live.” It’s the first show with Colin Jost at the “Weekend Update” desk, though he does have a co-anchor in Cecily Strong who has been there all season to try to understand some of various odds and ends that go along with the job.

So what do the two parties have to ultimately say about the gig? While there is not too much in the way of hard-hitting questions courtesy of their “Today Show” chat (mostly because it is “The Today Show,” and has to be geared towards the masses instead of “SNL” geeks), the two did share a few pretty funny lines about their experience so far. Jost said that this was something that was always the dream for him to do, and Cecily event went on to say that she was still working on trying to get her own material and presence on the show perfected.

As of right now, it feels like Jost will take on a role here similar to Seth Meyers, at least in that he will probably not be featured in too many other sketches over the course of the night outside of the one that he co-anchors. But then again, he also has his work cut out for him as the show’s co-head writer after Meyers has departed to host his version of “Late Night.” He has been a part of the series behind the scenes, though, for many years, and there is therefore no reason at all to believe that the show is going to start snowballing off of a cliff just because Seth is no longer there anymore to interview random crazy people.

Jim Parsons will be the host for the new episode airing this weekend, and if you click here, you can watch a promo for that. Also, be sure to sign up now for our CarterMatt Newsletter in the event that you want to get some more scoop all about it.
