‘Saturday Night Live’: Lena Dunham to make hosting debut March 8
“Saturday Night Live” is about to go to the girls … or at least one of the stars of the HBO show.
Today, NBC announced that Lena Dunham is going to host the show for the very first time on Saturday, March 8, which is a week after Jim Parsons will make his own hosting debut on the show. The National are going to serve as the musical guest for the event which is an interesting choice for the show. While Dunham is a fan of “SNL” and claims that this is a dream come true, she’s not exactly a traditional comic actor. Most of the strength of the “Girls” comes from grounded, serious performances that are supported out of funny writing.
The other part of this gig that will be interesting is that Dunham is so polarizing. She’s one of those performers that you either love or hate, and it will be interesting to see whether or not she can use this show in order to boost her own platform and convince some of those haters that she is someone worth watching. We find “Girls” to be a pretty funny show, and with that and also Lena’s own creative mind, we are reasonably excited to see this show. Bonus points will come if she manages to find a way to get Allison Williams or Zosia Mamet somehow involved in it.
New episodes of “Girls” season 3 are going to continue airing on HBO Sunday nights.
