‘The X Factor’ UK: Cheryl Cole’s return alongside Simon Cowell more likely than ever
In the modern age of singing competitions and people going back and forth on contracts, the last thing that you really ever expect to hear is of a deal getting done sooner than it has to. However, some early indications when it comes to Cheryl Cole and a possible gig on “The X Factor” suggest that something could actually happen sooner rather than later.
According to a source from the Mirror, Cheryl recently flew in from Los Angeles to London in order to have a sit-down meeting with Simon Cowell and show bosses, where they discussed a possible return for her to the show in the summer. This is something that we previously felt was not particularly likely, given the fallout that happened on the American version of the show. However, times have very much changed since then, and most indications are that Simon and Cheryl have repaired their relationship.
Here is what one source told the publication about how the meeting went:
“Her return is now 99 per cent concluded. The meeting was a case of tying up some loose ends and things went really well. Now Simon and show producers are just waiting on Cheryl’s confirmation. Everyone is really excited about the idea of having her back on the show.”
Cheryl will probably at least briefly be a ratings boost for the show, possibly in the same way that Paula Abdul at first helped “The X Factor” USA get some numbers after being apart from Simon for some time. However, what we eventually learned from that is that you cannot always go home again and expect the same chemistry. It felt forced for the two the second time around, and that is why we are not willing to sit here and say that getting Cheryl back is a slam dunk for the show. There are still a variety of other things that need to be worked out to make it work.
