NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 6:Watch Blake Shelton, Shakira sing each other’s songs

The Voice -If there is something in particular that has become a little bit of a “Voice” tradition over the years, it is having the season start off with some sort of big performance from the four coaches.

So what makes the one to open season 6 a little bit different? Well, think along the lines of watching the coaches almost do something out of “Freaky Friday” … except with songs rather than bodies. Shakira performs part of Blake Shelton’s “Boys Round Here,” while he sings “Whenever, Wherever” like it is a country song. Meanwhile, Adam Levine sings “Without You” (a song popularized by David Guetta and Usher), while Usher rocks out to the Maroon 5 hit “Love Somebody.”

The person that probably had the biggest challenge here is Adam, mostly because Usher has a crazy range that very few people performing right now can match. Meanwhile, Shakira probably had the most fun singing about drinking, trucks, and all of the other typical country music stuff in Blake’s hit song.

“The Voice” has an immediate challenge come Monday night, at least in that it has to compete against “The Bachelor” for the first time in two years, “How I Met Your Mother” close to its series finale, and also the general decline in singing shows. We honestly expect lower numbers the rest of the way, and it’s really not so much the fault of any of the coaches so much as it just is the current state of the genre. With this being said, we wouldn’t be stunned if “The Voice” eventually becomes a fall-only show, while “American Idol” ends up getting the spotlight in the spring.

Does watching this get you more excited for Monday’s premiere, and who do you think performs the song of the other artist the best? Let us know below, and click here if you haven’t read some of the latest headlines yet about the exit of Cee Lo Green.
