‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9: Jason Segel first cast member to finish filming
“How I Met Your Mother” must have already shot some of its most-important scenes, at least based on the little bit of news that we have for you today: Jason Segel has apparently wrapped up his time filming the role of Marshall on the show.
This news was confirmed by series propmaster David Baker on Twitter, who cited the reason for Segel’s early exit (the show still has a couple of shooting days next week) being that he is taking off in order to shoot a movie in Michigan. This is not really a surprise to us that he is the first cast member to be done, mostly because it’s felt for a while like he is dipping his toes into several different worlds. He has been doing the show along with movies for many years now, and has been the least-active with the main cast when it comes to promoting. (That’s not to say that he has been absent, though; he has been much more involved than, for example, Donald Glover was with his final five episodes of “Community.”)
The series finale itself is going to air come Monday, March 31, and despite Segel finishing early, we don’t expect him to have a reduced presence at all. They likely just structured many of his scenes earlier, and he and Lily are going to get the conclusion to their story that they deserve. (Yes, they definitely do deserve it after all of these years.) While we cannot say that every loose end will be tied up (we still wonder if the pineapple incident will ever be explained), at least some of them will.
What do you think about this marking the end for Segel on “How I Met Your Mother”? Share your thoughts below, and also be sure to click here to watch the first promo for Monday night’s “Rally.”

One of the most skillful, touching, and memorable performances I’ve seen in some 60 years of watching TV is Jason Segel’s performance in the episode “Last Words” where his character, Marshall, listens to his father’s voicemail after the father’s death. It touched both my husband and me to tears.
