‘Sherlock’ season 4: Benedict Cumberbatch and the virtues of a face
There are so many reasons that Benedict Cumberbatch stands out in a crowd. For one, he is a stupendous actor, and his work on “Sherlock” reminds you of that time and time again. Then, you also get the fact that he doesn’t exactly look like very many other actors who are already in the business.
In the new video below (courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter), Cumberbatch himself has a little bit of fun with the notion that he is such a distinctive guy, and has what he jokingly refers to as a “weird face.” Here is what he had to say in full about one of the reasons for his popularity:
“It’s the blessing of having a weird face — somewhere between an otter and something people find vaguely attractive.”
This is a face that Cumberbatch has used to draw in roles from well beyond the “Sherlock” franchise. As a matter of fact, he is one of the most sought-after names in the entire entertainment industry right now for feature films, in addition to whatever television appearances that he makes. This is one of many reasons why the series is only filming once every two years; there is simply so much else that he has going on that there is not a whole lot of room in his schedule.
Of course, the video touches on a variety of other notable subjects when it comes to the actor, who may or may not get an opportunity to film “Sherlock” again later this year. He has expressed an interest in doing more, and it is now by and large an issue of timing.
