Sochi Olympics 2014: Ashley Wagner’s reaction soon to be talk of late-night comics everywhere
Do we have our first real internet-worthy moment of the Sochi Olympics courtesy of Ashley Wagner? We would not exactly say that, since we would otherwise give that honor to none other than the Opening Ceremonies and that ring malfunction.
What we really do have instead here is a case of a young women who has managed to find herself some sort of stardom, and maybe even some sort of career opportunity after the games, courtesy of a face that she made when reacting to a score. Folks online are already pegging her to be the next McKayla Maroney, famous for that “not impressed” face that she made while competing in gymnastics. This moment led to it becoming a massive meme, and she ended up even making the face while meeting President Obama. She has also segued it into an acting career, as she has made appearances on both “Hart of Dixie” as well as “Bones.”
The only tough news for Wagner is that there are going to be fewer people in the late-night world available to comment on this right now, thanks largely to the fact that Jimmy Fallon is not going to be starting up on “The Tonight Show” until next week. This is the sort of thing that, after all, he would have a heck of a time discussing. All of the other networks would need to borrow the footage from NBC in order to make it happen.
But, for the time being, you can at least enjoy the footage in glorious Vine form below, just in case you want to see Wagner’s facial reaction time an time again.
While there have been many great athletic achievements so far during the games, we’re a TV site! Therefore, we are more interested in the silliness and the TV-worthy moments.
