Super Bowl commercials: Cheerios family brings back mixed family for new ad
Well, for Super Bowl XLVIII this weekend, the brand decided to show us another ad featuring the same family, and news that the mom was expecting another child.
What worked – Mostly, Cheerios sticking to their guns here creating the commercial that they wanted to make. We still don’t understand why there is any controversy surrounding this at all, but that is just the way things happen sometimes when there are crazy people out there who like to criticize things.
What didn’t – Unless you feel like Cheerios are boring, the company probably did their job appealing to moms or older, nostalgic viewers. We really don’t see this actually getting the attention of anyone young. It’s not funny, so it may be more of a bathroom break ad.
Grade: B+. It’s an ad that Cheerios clearly wanted to make and the feel suits their brand well. However, we do question to a certain extent if it is time for them to move on and do something a little bit different. We know they love the wholesome family image, but if you do one thing for too long, the spots start to blur a little bit.
