‘Sherlock’ season 4: What we know about Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman’s next move
Tonight, “Sherlock” season 3 is going to come to a close over on PBS, and that puts us in the pretty sad position of having to sit around and wonder what is coming up in the future … though we don’t know just how far in the future we are going to be looking.
Let us at least spend a moment or two here sharing what we do know about the road ahead. The new season of “Sherlock” has not been formally written yet, even though there have been ideas discussed. The earliest it could film is this summer, after Steven Moffat finishes his run on the latest season of “Doctor Who” … unless of course he develops his own unique ability to travel through time and space, and be in multiple positions at the same time.
But even with this, you have to consider the work schedules of stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. They have movies that they are working on, and while they each want to come back and film more of the show, there is no defined timetable as to when that is going to happen. In the end, the #1 thing that you should have when handling this matter is patience, and plenty of it. It’s going to take a good while before we end up seeing what happens next. We know that you my have heard rumors about the show being back on the air at Christmastime, but that seems extremely unlikely. The only way that we could really see that happening at all is if production is rushed, and nobody should want that for the sake of making quality television.
Our personal belief is that we could see “Sherlock” back in the spring or the summer of 2015, but the best philosophy to take when gauging the future of the show is to believe it when you see it … or at least hear about it. The British media has been known to pass along some less-than-true stories, and it is hard to trust most of what they say at this point.
