NBC’s ‘Hannibal’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Boardwalk Empire’ alum scores important role
Have you missed Michael Pitt on “Boardwalk Empire“? We are assuming that you are answering that question with a “yes,” mostly because almost every fan of “Boardwalk Empire” misses him following his (years-old spoiler alert!) death at the end of season 2.
Luckily, the HBO show’s loss is the gain for none other than NBC’s “Hannibal.” In news that was first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Michael has scored a role on the show’s second season as Mason Verger. This is a character who many fans of the movies surrounding the Hannibal character are familiar with already, as Gary Oldman (another tremendous actor) played a version of this character. Verger is an unstable man with a ton of money, and is a patient of Dr. Lecter’s. The two develop an interesting relationship, and Verger could end up becoming key to exposing something about this man that only Will Graham so far has picked up on.
“Hannibal” has been largely under the radar over the past several months, but all of that is set to change at the end of this month. February 28 marks the official beginning of the show’s second season, which is on a new night and time Fridays at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Could this end up working for it? We feel like it, since there will not be much in the way of similar competition. It may not have fared well for “Dracula,” but we feel like that was more due to expectations for that show being ultimately very different from the product that was delivered in the end.
There have already been a number of other actors booked for “Hannibal” this season, including Jeremy Davies, a “Three Stooges” alum in Chris Diamantopoulos, and more.
