Make no mistake that at this point, we are certainly eager to know that House of the Dragon season 3 is coming to HBO this weekend. However, isn’t it nice to know that a season 4 is already coming?

Sure, the news is out there that this will be the final chapter of the prequel series but at the same time, there is some comfort in that. This is not a story that can last forever and unlike the original Game of Thrones, there is more of a clear ending present through Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin. We feel confident that the story will stick the landing, though at the same time, we have our fair share of concerns for some individual characters along the way.

Speaking at a recent press conference for season 3 (per Gold Derby), here is at least some of what showrunner Ryan Condal had to say about what is to come:

“We’re actively writing … We actually are starting to turn drafts over to HBO. This is early, we will keep iterating. I don’t put the script down until they actually take it away from me in production.”

The Emmy-nominated producer continued, “We’re as far ahead as we’ve ever been at this point in crafting a new season, while we’re still [delivering post-production on] the old one. That goes to show the machine is up and running and it’s on its feet. But it’s also the fourth season — the end — the final act — in a story we’ve been waiting to tell for many years. We’re all really excited about doing it.”

Even though the entire team is far ahead, we would be shocked to see House of the Dragon return with the end before 2028. After all, there is no reason to hurry it, especially when you also have A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 set for next year.
