‘The Bachelor’ review: Sharleen Joynt, Nikki Ferrell, Juan Pablo Galavis drama, and kisses
Monday night’s episode of “The Bachelor” was certainly a little different than most. Not only did we have frequent drama, but also two group dates, roses, fights, mockery, and of course tears. There were also moments that really had us wondering if Juan Pablo Galavis is one of the worst bachelors ever. Maybe it is just him coming after Sean Lowe, but there’s something about his demeanor that most of the time seems … off.
Exhibit A? Him almost acting like a puppetmaster at times. He finds out that Clare Crawley (targeted by the women for being a bit clingy) doesn’t like octopus, and then he basically forces her to eat it while out in South Korea. Basically, he is using his power in an effort to create moments for the show. It’s like he is a producer as much as anything else. The same goes for his random “no kissing” rule at the group date, which caused a few of them who haven’t kissed him yet to start to get emotional.
Also, what fits into this category is Juan Pablo seemingly playing with Nikki Ferrell’s head, suggesting that there could be drama in the house. She then went after Clare, even though Clare hadn’t said anything. Maybe this wasn’t intentional, and even though we’re not the biggest Nikki fan, we felt for her then.
Then, let’s talk exhibit B. What we saw from him flip-flopping so much. He says he doesn’t want to kiss people because of his daughter … after he has already kissed half a dozen people. Also, he went ahead and kissed Clare after that! Trying to figure out this guy is impossible, and we don’t want that in a lead. It just feels like everyone is nervous or intimidated around him rather than having fun. The only person who is really honest about it, though, is Sharleen Joynt … and we don’t even know why she is still there. She basically told him everything that does not align with what he wants out of life, and he still gave her a rose!
We don’t really want to recap most of the dates, since the majority of it was just them doing semi-staged ridiculous things throughout the area. The only real thing to note is that Nikki, Andi Dorfman, and Sharleen entered the Rose Ceremony with roses in their hands, they could sit back and relax a little while the other ladies had to sweat it out.
As for who went home, it was none other than Elise Mosca and Lauren Solomon … otherwise known as two people with only a tiny bit of screen time. Lauren had a meltdown tonight over not getting a kiss, but the only other moment that was particularly notable was her introduction with the piano. What a trainwreck episode. It was fun at times, but weird and boring at others. Grade: B-.
