‘Hannibal’ season 2 promo promises ‘there will be a reckoning’

In just over a month from now on Friday, February 28 (otherwise known as after the conclusion of the Sochi Olympics), NBC has something very different for you to feast your eyes on: The new season of “Hannibal.” This is a season that is going to promise to be all sorts of dramatic, but before we say anything else about that, we feel the need to begin here with some sort of mock-PSA: Go watch the first season if you haven’t already. It may be one of the most well-acted, terrifying things on all of network TV.

As for this preview below, it teases mostly that there is a “reckoning” ahead, and that this show / the obsession that Will Graham has can do some pretty crazy things to your head. We re very familiar at the moment with the situation that Hugh Dancy’s character finds himself in: He is the prisoner, while Dr. Lecter is the free man who everyone trusts. He has to figure out a way over the episodes ahead to turn the tables on that, and have everyone realize just how evil a creature they re dealing with here.

While this promo may only be 30 seconds long, there are a number of little moments in here that remind us that this is a Bryan Fuller show, from the cuts to the dark / grotesque imagery that populates almost every frame. This is a show with a different feel than anything else on NBC, which is precisely one of many reasons why it is so alluring.

Is Friday going to be a tough timeslot for it? Maybe, but given that it follows up “Grimm,” it is at least next to something else with a similar subject matter. Also, we feel like it is going to benefit from the fact that there is no major competition in the genre in this time, and that buzz around the first season was strong. Hopefully, the show has found some new viewers in the offseason, and they will dive in and enjoy what Dr. Lecter is bringing to the table here.
