‘Arrow’ spin-off ‘The Flash’ casts ‘Vampire Diaries,’ ‘Necessary Roughness’ actors

“The Flash” is getting ready to soon shoot its pilot, and with that in mind, now does seem like the perfect time for some of the casting news to start to trickle out.

With that in mind, we come to this story! According to a new report from Deadline, the Grant Gustin-led series has cast a pair of actors for major roles, with one of them in particular having major CW connections already. Rick Gosnett, who you have gotten to know as of late for his take on Dr. Wes Manfield on “The Vampire Diaries,” is set to star here as Detective Eddie Thawne, a Central City Police Department neophyte. The twist here is that he, to borrow from the book of superhero cliches, has some sort of mysterious past that is still very much under wraps.

As for the other significant casting, former “Necessary Roughness” actress Danielle Panabaker has been brought on to play the part of Caitlin Snow, a woman who ended up losing her fiance in the particle accelerator accident at S.T.A.R. Labs that also seemingly has given Barry Allen his powers.

What remains somewhat interesting to us about these two characters is that if you are a fan of DC Comics, then (SPOILER alert!) you may have an inkling that both of these characters are going to become villains in the world of the show. While we would not fight you on that assertion, we would remind you of this: Tommy Merlyn died on “Arrow,” and his character had a much larger role in the comics. They are not afraid to change things up.
