‘Once Upon a Time’ season 3 spoilers: Hold out hope for Rumpelstiltskin
Is Rumpelstiltskin really dead on “Once Upon a Time” season 3? We can understand many a fan of the famed character starting to shake a little bit in their boots at the thought of not seeing him grace the screen at any point in the near future.
So what the purpose of this article for the time being is simple: To give you just the smallest smidgen of hope that you are going to be seeing Rumple grace the show again in the near future. There is no proof that the character will be back, but we do have the following quote from executive producer Edward Kitsis as a part of a new interview with TV Guide:
“He went into that knife, it looked like death to me, but he’s the Dark One,”
It really looked like death to everyone, but the question that you (and really everyone) has to ask moving into the second half of this season is whether or not this is how he would allow himself to go out. Given that he has always made some sort of a living for himself off of being the smartest guy in the room, we have a very hard time picturing that this is his last bow. Instead, we are much more inclined to believe that Rumple is going to have many more opportunities moving forward to try to enact his reign of terror / awesomeness.
But … this is all speculation on this end. We’ll just have to wait and see what pans out.

They would be stupid to get rid of Robert Carlyle, easily the most charismatic of the male actors in OUAT, and Rumplestiltskin, the only male character with an actual story arc — the other men only exist as bland cardboard cut-out counterpoints to the female characters (which is fine, since this show is clearly geared towards a female audience – you gotta know your audience and sell to it). It’s just sad that the show had to resort to another one of those inane “is he gone or not???” nonsense cliffhangers that will NEVER stick. It’s like when Captain Picard was assimilated by the Borg at the end of Season 3 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Who didn’t know that he would be brought back in the very first episode of Season 4? Really, people. Rumple will be back. Maybe like some other version of himself (like a Gandalf the White kind of thing), but he WILL be back. I’m taking bets.

I, too hope that Rumple isn’t dead. He is my favorite character. I enjoy the scenes and storyline with him in Storybrooke and Fairytale land. Early in Season 2 the storyline started getting corny and continued to Season 3. I only continued watching after season 1 because of Rumple and Regina. If he’s gone, OUAT may lose me as a faithful viewer.
