‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5, episode 11 video: Candice Accola on the Damon / Elena split

What makes a breakup apparently better? If you ask Caroline Forbes on “The Vampire Diaries,” a breakfast! In a move that Walter White Jr. would certainly approve of, there is nothing better in her eyes than making someone a pretty darn fine meal to help them get over some various struggles.

The one thing that is somewhat surprising about the sneak peek below from the show’s 100th episode “500 Years of Solitude,” it is that Candice Accola’s character knows perhaps way too much about the split … or at least far more than any sort of rational person should. She’s got most of the details down pat, and feels the need to commentate on almost anything and everything related to it. We can offer you up the simple version now: Damon took the martyr approach, and dumped her because he had no confidence that he could give her a worthwhile life. Therefore, he is suddenly the most masochistic character on the entire show.

It’s not often that a Damon / Elena story is not the focal point of an episode, but in this case, we really do feel more like the thing everyone should be focusing on is what will happen next to Katherine. The title harkens back to her life so far, along with the fact that she has willingly chosen to spend most of it alone, often on the run from Klaus or someone else who could be in her way. That is hardly a great way to celebrate life, but it for whatever reason the way that she’s chosen.

As for Caroline, let’s just hope that she gets a chance to celebrate being in a new relationship at some point soon! We know that many are looking forward to it.
