‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9, episode 15 preview: Barney speaks the truth

Did you find Monday night’s “How I Met Your Mother” episode to be largely a waste of filler material? Then you may smile a little bit more at the new one airing next week in “Unpause.” This will at least be a story that deals more with the present, and also revolves around Marshall and Lily addressing some of their future, and how they are going to get past the former deciding to go ahead and take a job despite his wife planning to go to Italy for an opportunity of her own.

But the promo below doesn’t actually tease any of this at all. Instead, the focus is on what looks to be the token funny “B-story” of the week, as we have an opportunity to see what is going to happen when Barney actually has to admit to everything that he has done over the course of his life. The legends are over, and now the mission is instead going to be all about the truth.

Is there a part of this episode that we are a little bit nervous about? Definitely, since part of the joy of the Barney character is his mystique. Since Neil Patrick Harris has a love of magic himself, we may as well raise the question ourselves: Is it better not knowing the secret behind the trick? We like Barney just the way that he is. Then again, we do also still believe that there is going to be mostly comedy in here, and not anything to ruin the impression that we already have of him. It’s just a few nice laughs to keep our mind off of what is happening with the other major part of this story.
