There are many characters within the “Supernatural” universe who have gone in strange directions since season 9 started, and one of those people who has been through the gamut is Misha Collins’ Castiel. We can actually use the distinction of calling him a person, mostly because he did not have his powers for a big chunk of the season. We instead got such delightful characters as Homeless Guy Castiel, Wannabe Hunter Castiel, and our personal favorite in Gas Station Castiel.
Now that he has been through the human stage, it’s fair to say that we are looking at a far different journey than anything that we’ve seen so far. Series boss Jeremy Carver tells TVLine that there was a mental change that came from Castiel being a human, and that changes his mission moving forward in mysterious ways:
“Yes, it is different — in a way that I can’t completely go into now. But there is no question that his time being human will affect his thinking going forward. And he’s going to find himself in the angelic fray, as it were, more than ever. And he’s going to find himself at a point of decision that he never considered a few short months ago. It’s going to be a little bit of a be-careful-what-you-wish-for [situation] when it comes to Cas and what’s in store for him as a newly reminted angel.”
In the end, we expect victories and failures scattered across the board for the character in the upcoming episodes. He’s powerful enough to be able to accomplish quite a bit, but actually taking down a whole regime in Heaven at this point may be a little bit of a tall order.
