‘Modern Family’ season 5 officially heading to Australia to film episode
For a while, it was pretty unclear as to whether or not the “Modern Family” cast was going to be heading Down Under for a new episode. While there had been an offer put out there for them to do so, going halfway around the world to Australia is not exactly something that you can just pick up and do. There are so many cost considerations to take into account, and also the amount of time that it takes to travel and set up shop there for a new episode.
But, the show has managed to work things out thanks to an arrangement with Qantas Airlines, who will help to fly the cast and crew down there for a two-week shoot that will be used for the next big location episode for a show that has already been to Wyoming, Hawaii, and Disneyland.
Speaking about the trip in a statement to TV Guide, executive producer Steve Levitan had the following to say:
“We are so excited about our trip down under and we promise not to do any ‘down under’ jokes. We look forward to a fantastic shoot in many exotic locations. We loved the family vacation episodes we shot in Hawaii and Wyoming — this one is certainly our most ambitious yet. We promise to feature a kangaroo, a koala and a boomerang. I’m sure there will be lots more, but so far that’s all we know about Australia — our American school system is a disaster. So we thank Qantas for this amazing opportunity to broaden our horizons. Plus it’ll be nice to go to a place where everyone looks like Hugh Jackman and Miranda Kerr. Aussie, Aussie Aussie!”
Hopefully, this will produce another big reason to get viewers of the show excited, especially since ratings have fallen over the past year or so as more and more new comedies arrive on the scene.
