‘Doctor Who’ season 8: First photo of Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman on set
Clearly, the folks at “Doctor Who” know that even the first day of production on their upcoming eighth season is a big deal, and they therefore have no problem at all doing whatever they can to promote the heck out of it.
The BBC, for example, posted today this first photo of Capaldi on set along with his co-star Jenna Coleman, who looked to be very happy to work with him. The network was quick to note, though, that you should not take this outfit to be any sign as to what The Doctor’s signature costume is going to be for this incarnation. (Personally, we feel like that is somewhat of a bummer, since we actually think that he looks like a wily magician in it.)
Capaldi gave a statement to the network to go along with this first photo, where he expressed some excitement to really start up work following some brief appearances in the 50th Anniversary and Christmas Specials:
“New job, first day, slightly nervous. Just like the Doctor, I’m emerging from the TARDIS into a whole other world.”
Executive producer Steven Moffat also expressed a similar sort of feeling while work was beginning at the show’s set in Cardiff:
“First the eyebrows! Then, at Christmas, the face! Coming soon, the whole Doctor. In the Cardiff studios, the Capaldi era begins.”
Capaldi will be hard at work over the next several months filming new episodes of the show, with the premiere date eventually coming in the fall of this year. There are many episodes still to film, and it will be in this block that we will start to really know what makes this new Doctor stand out versus Matt Smith, David Tennant, and some of the others.
