ABC Family orders new comedy from Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth

With “Melissa & Joey,” ABC Family already proved that they were more than willing to go the TV Land model of finding some iconic actors, and then putting them in a new show in hopes of trying to recreate the magic.

So who are they willing to take a chance on this time? Rather than “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” it is instead former “Beverly Hills, 90210” stars Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth, who are getting together for a new show entitled “Mystery Girls.” What do we know about it right now? The premise itself is pretty simple, at least in that it stars the two actresses as former co-stars on a mystery show who end up getting thrown into an actual mystery, and they have to try to figure it out. So basically, this entire show is just a mystery version of “Galaxy Quest,” not that we mind that since “Galaxy Quest” was one of the greatest movies ever.

Will it work to bring these two women together again? While it may still be too early to tell, it is certainly a brilliant idea in theory. This is almost instant buzz for a show that would probably not otherwise be getting that much buzz at all, and the folks involved have to at least be commended for figuring that much out. In the end, though, this is the age where quality wins out on TV above all else. Therefore, if the show is not good for anything other than maybe a laugh here or there, then we really have a hard time imagining it really lasting for any sort of extended period of time.

Just based on this premise alone, do you like the idea of seeing Tori and Jennie back together; also, do you think that ABC Family is the right network for it? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below.
