‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 character debate: Sophie McShera and Daisy Mason

In just a few short hours, Americans are going to get the opportunity to watch “Downton Abbey” season 4 for the first time courtesy of the premiere on PBS. But for those of you who are in Great Britain, you’ve already had an opportunity to see everything unfold on the show! So what does this mean for you? Basically, we know you want to take advantage of a chance to see what is coming up even further on down the road. (Spoilers ahead for Americans!)

So today in our continuing spotlight series, we’re looking at one of our personal favorite members of the servants in Daisy Mason, who has gone through quite a few series of unfortunate events on the show. While she is still healthy and employed, we’re sure that she would love to see some more happen in her favor.

When we last saw her – Daisy actually did get quite an offer to go to the United States and serve as a cook for Harold, which would have allowed for quite an opportunity for adventure. But instead, she opted to stay at Downton surrounded by everyone that she already knows and cares for. This was not necessarily a surprising move, given that we know there may still be lingering feelings there for Alfred.

What could happen next – Eventually, there could be an opportunity for her to take on more of a leadership role in the kitchen, given that Mrs. Patmore has shown some wear and tear over the years. There are also some possibilities that other opportunities could come Daisy’s way eventually, since she has proven herself to be pretty talented at her job … even if she is a bit sour and sarcastic from time to time.

What we’d like to see – Ideally, our dream for Daisy would be for her and Alfred to be together and run some sort of cooking operation. But, this is the sort of thing that does have to take a little bit of time. We only want to see this happen if Alfred really makes an effort to pursue her now that she has spent so much time trying to pursue him. Also, we don’t want to see her unattached from the rest of the characters in such a way until we know that we are near the end of the series.

What do you think is going to happen for Daisy on this upcoming “Downton Abbey” season? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below.
