‘Arrow’ season 2 spoilers: When will we learn about Felicity’s past?

Over the course of “Arrow” so far, we’ve learned quite a bit about Oliver from the island, and the entire Lance family based on their father and the people they spent time with. We’ve gotten a good grasp on who Roy Harper is, and the military training that Diggle was a part of prior to becoming a member of Team Arrow.

But what about Felicity? Basically, what we know about her for now is that she is a tech genius, and that she has now become a full-functioning member of the team despite some initial hesitations about surrounding herself with dangerous people. She knows what sort of world that she is in now, but she’s bold enough to stick with it despite her fears of constant death.

So how did Emily Bett Rickards’ character become the person that she now is? Well, the answer to that is somewhat complicated in that the folks running the show know, but fans don’t. Not only that, but it could be quite a while before we find out. Just look at what showrunner Andrew Kreisberg said to TVLine for more:

“We have known for a long time what Felicity’s background is, where she came from and who her parents are. But it could be such a big story that it’s something that we might hold off on. In a rare display of, ‘Oh, that might be too much,’ we might have to wait on that.”

The big reason to hold off for now is mostly because “Arrow” already has a dozen or so other enormous things that they can focus on, whether it be the arrival of Slade Wilson in the present day, Brother Blood and his increasingly-evil antics, the Canary, Laurel hitting rock bottom, more of Diggle’s past … and a few other things. There’s just so much happening right now that trying to fit in Felicity’s story to go with it may not be doing the character the justice that she deserves.
