ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: Olivia, Fitz, and the reelection campaign

If you are a major “Scandal” fan, we feel your pain right about now. While you may be happy that a good chunk of the season has aired already, you are probably not so pleased that the show will not be back on the air again until Thursday, February 27. Then, to make matters even worse, the series is only going to be giving you eight more episodes this season thanks in part to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy.

As for what the major story threads are moving forward this year, executive producer Betsy Beers makes one thing very clear in a new interview with TVLine: If you are a fan of the whole reelection storyline, it is going to be front and center throughout what lies ahead. There is also the whole story of B6-13, and Olivia is going to be very shocked when she learns that Jake has basically taken the place of Rowan in the operation.

As for just what is going to be coming up when it comes to the Fitz / Olivia relationship, Beers noted that there are definitely some rough / good times ahead for the couple. Should you really be surprised by that? The answer to that is clearly “no”:

“Fitz and Olivia are always intertwined in very odd and new ways. I would expect that that’s something that will continue.” 

“Scandal” has been a major success for ABC, so the great thing about the second half of this season is that you’re really not going to have to spend a whole lot of time worrying about whether or not the show is going to be back for another season. It will almost surely be renewed, so the writers aren’t going to be in a hurry to really resolve anything.
