ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 6 spoilers: Why ‘Under Fire’ is big for Seamus Dever’s Ryan

When “Castle” season 6 returns to ABC for a new episode airing on Monday, January 6 after “The Bachelor,” it is going to be with an episode entitled “Under Fire” that is definitely dramatic and then some. This is a story that will have a mystery that tests the abilities of Castle and Beckett to work under pressure, and perhaps equally important here is that this is a story that is going to create a number of majorly dramatic situations for Seamus Dever’s character of Ryan.

What is the reason for that? In the official synopsis below, it is revealed that this is the episode that Ryan’s wife Jenny is going to welcome their new child after the news about the pregnancy was first revealed in the spring:

“When Castle and Beckett discover that the victim of a building fire was actually shot to death, they get on the trail of a serial arsonist turned murderer. Meanwhile, Ryan’s wife, Jenny, goes into labor, but disaster threatens to ruin the joyous moment.”

One of the fun things about having Jenny appear on the show is that Seamus’ real-life wife Juliana plays her, so this has to be a fun occasion for the household as they get to spend a little bit of time with each other on set in addition to at home. It’s also about time that Ryan does get a little more time in the spotlight, since he hasn’t really had much of a showcase episode during season 6 so far. These are mostly nice in that they give Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic some rest, and the story that he is going to be addressing here is one that many parents likely ponder to themselves when they take on dangerous jobs such as detectives: Is it really a good idea to take on so many risky missions, especially when you have someone else to care for?
