‘Doctor Who’ Christmas Special video: Jenna Coleman’s Clara and an unusual request

Could those Doctor / Clara shippers finally get what they want on the “Doctor Who” Christmas special tomorrow night? We’re not ready to say that just yet, but it does at least look like they are going to have a pretty good time based on some of the evidence that is out there.

In the video below, Clara calls up The Doctor with what she believes to be a pretty simple request: To help her in the dating department so that her Christmas goes off without a hitch. Specifically, she is hoping that he will pretend to be her boyfriend, since she lied to her family about having a boyfriend who would be there for holiday dinner. Clearly, she had to have done this with the expectation that The Doctor would be game, since we haven’t quite seen her with a ton of other male friends ever since she first came on board as the character; unfortunately, he seems more interested in trying to solve a different problem. (Personally, we don’t quite know how it was that she did not see this coming.)

Eventually, we know that there will be a much more serious mission at play here that revolves around such things as the galaxy being at stake and The Doctor doing what he can as a protector. Admittedly, though, there is also a part of us that would be more than fine if this entire special was just one big Christmas dinner. Every good science fiction show needs great characters, and the BBC has done a pretty stellar job at setting this show up with some memorable ones since its onset.
