‘Bones’ season 9 spoilers: More information on surprising finale cliffhanger

It was just one day ago that some of the first information was starting to come out about the end of “Bones” season 9, and a cliffhanger that could be on the way that really would surprise many. Well, we’ve got a little more information that will help to rule out one important bit of information: We’re not looking at any sort of twist here that is going to ruin Booth and Brennan’s personal life in any sort of substantial way.

Speaking to TVLine after originally saying that there would be a cliffhanger that would have life-changing consequences, executive producer Stephen Nathan made it clear that while we could be talking about something dire here, it is not something that is going to ruin Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz’s characters in terms of their feelings for each other:

“They’re not getting divorced or anything. We’re not going through nine seasons and then send them on the road to ruin. That’s not going to happen. They could be on a road to ruin but it’s not a personal ruin. They’re fine.”

Personally, what we really see this move as is a concentrated effort by producers to ensure that a season 10 renewal happens, since the last thing that you want to do from a network perspective is infuriate fans by canceling a show right when there is some sort of tease for what could be another 22-24 episodes ahead. We don’t exactly believe that those who love “Bones” really have much of anything to worry about. The ratings are pretty solid for season 9 at this point, and there are no signs of this slowing down right now. The real test could come in the spring, when some may want to spend their Friday nights going out rather than sitting at home and watching live TV.

“Bones” returns with “The Ghost in the Killer” on Friday, January 10.
