ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: Could Mellie (finally) get her own love interest?

Is Mellie always the easiest person to root for on “Scandal“? Hardly. More often than not, she just continues to make it extremely hard on herself to have people cheering for her, but in the end she’s still a sympathetic character thanks to her being forced to do nothing while her husband sleeps around with Olivia Pope.. If that doesn’t hurt, we would wonder about her sanity.

Now we come to the good news in that there is a man coming up who could potentially whisk Mellie off her feet and give her a little bit of that love that she craves. According to TVLine, the show is currently casting an actor to play the role of Andrew, a forty-something man who at least gets close to the First Lady in some capacity. There are a few questions that come to our mind just based on the thought of this character turning up:

1. Will Mellie getting a new love interest finally make her happy, and distract her from most of the terrible things surrounding her?

2. How would Fitz react to hearing the news about his wife falling for someone else? While he doesn’t seem to care that much about her, there is a history … and he has not really been put in this situation before.

3. How would Mellie manage to find time for any man when the public is watching her every move? The press does know already about the affair?

“Scandal” returns to TV on Thursday night, and hopefully we’ll get an opportunity to find more information on Mellie’s past. We learned recently that she was raped by Fitz’s father, and (in the mother of soapy twists) she doesn’t know whether or not her child really belongs to the President. Also, get ready for some more Olivia Pope mama drama now that she is on the loose!
