‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ premiere review: Kenya Moore, NeNe Leakes set the stage
Is there madness coming in Atlanta? Based on the season premiere for “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” Sunday night, it sure feels like it. This is a show that has surpassed most of the rest of the franchise just when it comes to giving out the perfect amount of what you want: Entertainment, real-life moments, and drama. These are women who at least seem to be aware of the cameras and their parts in the story, and are cognizant of the fact that you don’t want the same thing ever week. (Take that, New Jersey show!)
Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of some of the stories that we are excited to see play out in full now after watching this premiere episode. These were not the only stories in there, granted, but they were the ones that stood out.
1.NeNe Leakes vs. Kenya Moore – There are so many layers to this one You have Kenya feeling neglected as a friend, but you also have NeNe inviting Kenya’s ex Walter to the wedding and her not being particularly happy about it. Then, there was ear-pulling. Seriously. There was a moment in here that would have been much better served for a high school playground than an actual TV show.
2. Cynthia moving up – The great news? Cynthia’s modeling agency is moving to a better office … that is in a building owned by her husband, who used some of her money to pay for it. Nice? Not really.
3. Porsha Stewart’s divorce battle – This is a pretty emotional story, mostly because it is very sad in some ways, and horrible in others to hear about what Kordell allegedly did to her during her marriage. What this show really exposes is that there are downsides to not only being in the public eye, but subjecting much of your personal life and loved ones to it as well. You raise the stakes of having to go through something this painful in front of everyone.
While most of the good moments in this episode were teased in the previews, it’s still the best premiere for any “Real Housewives” franchise this year. Now, we’re just excited to see what happens next. Grade: B.
