ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 3 spoilers: Is the show doing Anthony Weiner-inspired episode?
If there is one thing that “Scandal” has largely decided to stray from over the course of its run on ABC, it is doing many episodes that are of that sort of “ripped from the headlines” variety. This is something that you typically see on “Law & Order: SVU” or “CSI,” but when you have a show that has so many serialized elements, you often don’t see too many reasons or motivations for a show to go down this road.
But, that at least seems to be changing somewhat courtesy of an episode that is going to tackle the complicated circumstances surrounding former Mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, and a scandalous habit that he had of taking all sorts of photos of a certain part of his anatomy that made his last name all of the more ironic. (The only thing better than this? Having a fake name that is “Carlos Danger” as a pseudonym.)
This fourth episode of the season (which will be focused on this story) is entitled “Say Hello To My Little Friend,” and will also feature an appearance from none other than former “Friends” star Lisa Kudrow in a major role. If you want to read more, then just take a gander at the official synopsis that is below courtesy of ABC:
“With Pope & Associates still struggling to find clients, the team decides to take on a philandering senator who enjoys taking photos of his not so public areas. Meanwhile, Mellie gets involved in her own Scandal with Democratic Congresswoman Josephine Marcus (Lisa Kudrow).”
We can’t say that we are jumping up at down at the prospect of seeing something like a Weiner story on the show, if for no other reason than that the series already has so much going for it. When you remember that you have the likes of Rowan, the mystery operation, and the return of Scott Foley, is there really any need at all to bring someone else into the mix? While we think this is only going to be a one-episode story, it’s still a distraction from the meat of this series. Meanwhile, Kudrow is going to be around for just a while longer.
