‘Downton Abbey’ season 4, episode 4 preview: Watch a Maggie Smith sneak peek!
Last week on “Downton Abbey,” we had an episode that runs the gamut from shocking to devastating, but mostly because of what happened downstairs rather than with the Earl or any of his relatives. (Warning: Spoilers ahead!) The British public has been routinely freaking out over what happened to Anna at the hands of Mr. Green, and for good reason. The question now is whether or not she is going to tell Bates about it, and what he will do upon learning the news whenever it does come up.
Sadly the sneak peek below doesn’t focus on the Anna/Bates situation. Instead, we have a video that is all about Maggie Smith’s Dowager Countess and Isobel Crawley having a conversation that is all about another person to be involved in a surprising storyline: Lady Mary. There was a glimmer of hope pertaining her and Lord Anthony Gillingham at the party, and that puts her in a compromising position in that some, for whatever reason due to the period, seem to believe that she should spend the rest of her life mourning Matthew. Luckily, neither of these women seem to feel this way.
Sunday’s episode will be about change in many ways; Gillingham will turn up again, and we will also be seeing Gary Carr’s character of Jack Ross for the first time as he starts to get closer with Lady Rose. Let’s just hope that he has a sort of calming influence on her, as she has been by far the biggest routine pest to all of the other characters. Her taking out Mary’s megaphone at the party could have been something reserved for a sitcom storyline.
What do you think about this video, and do you think that Mary’s new “independence” is going to cause all sorts of additional problems for her? We want to hear some of your thoughts below! Meanwhile, be sure to click here if you want to read what the actor behind Mr. Green had to say about playing his devastating scene.
