‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9, episode 1 preview: Barney and Robin’s surprise

During Monday night’s “How I Met Your Mother” season 9 premiere, it is pretty clear that we are going to see Barney and Robin find out a little bit more about each other than either one of the first envisioned. What are we talking about here? Think specifically along the lines of the two of them finding a shocking family link that circles back to Barney happening to have a certain relative that is Canadian.

In the video below, you can see just what we are talking about as the two parties actually compare notes about someone named Mitch, and how it looks like these two characters could actually be … related? Yes, this would be an insane twist to end all twists, especially since we have a sight of the two barfing out of a limousine at one point once they realize that their relationship may be even more complicated than either of them first thought.

Granted, there are a couple of things to consider when it comes to the sneak peek: This could all be a dream sequence, or there could be some other wrinkle in here like adoption along the line that keeps them from being related by blood. Then again, they could also just determine that they are so distantly related at this point that they really do not even care about whatever sort of common ground they may share. (It’s just amazing that the conversation never came up before now.)
