‘Survivor: Blood vs. Water’ castaway spotlight: Laura Morett

Laura's back -Had Laura Morett not expressed herself so honestly about her feelings towards Russell Hantz and “Survivor: Samoa,” maybe she would have been back sooner. For now, we’ll just say that we’re glad she is back. While she was not always our personal favorite player, we do like it when returnees (especially women, who often get the short straw in casting) are strong characters and gameplayers, and Laura is definitely that. She is someone who is never shy of an opinion, and who is almost always interested in being involved in decisions. As for whether or not that hurts her this second time around in the game on “Survivor: Blood vs. Water”, that is something that we will be discussing in full below.

Basic details – Laura Morett, 43 years old from Salem, Oregon; here with daughter Ciera Eastin

Occupation – Construction company owner

Claim to fame – Helping to turn Galu into an empire of zombies for the first part of “Survivor: Samoa,” only to later watch them slowly crumble when they first voted out Erik Cardona, and then Russell ran crazy all over them with immunity idols. Everything really started to hit the fan when John Fincher flipped and voted her out, and from this point on the rest of the tribe was doomed leading to an all-Foa Foa final three. So basically, Laura was part of the biggest tribe collapse ever after the merge.

Strengths – Laura is very athletic, hard working, and also someone who is going to do their fair share of work around camp and cultivate alliances. These are all pretty great attributes to carry with you into the “Survivor” game, especially when many women over 40 are underestimated in the game.

Weaknesses – Laura is going to drive some people batty, and we have a hard time imagining her getting along with people who are not as rigid or hold different beliefs than her. Do we really see her and Tyson getting along, or her and Aras? Not really. Laura didn’t do a good job the first time of blending in, and basically wandered around and made it clear to the world that she was a threat. You can’t do that in “Survivor” and expect to win the game.

Prediction – We said in our preview for Ciera that the best thing for her would be losing Laura in the game, and we stand by that. We just don’t know if Laura can allow others to be steering the ship, and it will cost her as she leaves the game shortly after the merge. For a time, some of her tribemates will probably keep her thanks to her being the perfect person to deflect some attention from themselves, but after the merge there are so many other threats that there she is no longer needed.
