‘The X Factor’ UK preview: Abi Alton surprises with Dixie Chicks’ ‘Travelling Soldier’

The latest news -On Saturday’s edition of “The X Factor” UK, we could have yet another surprise contender for the title at the end of the season; though this time, it is coming from a female singer / songwriter type named Abi Alton who is singing a rare cover from the Dixie Chicks. It’s still a shame in some ways how forgotten this group’s songs are sometimes all thanks to just some controversial comments about George W. Bush.

The song is called “Travelling Soldier,” but Abi manages to sing it in such an original style that had you never heard the song before, you would think that she wrote it. She has done a number of other original performances, and you can hear one of them in the video below.

The best comparison that we could offer for Abi right now is a younger, less-comedic version of Lucy Spraggan from last year. Neither one of them is necessarily the best singer, but could go far because they can really connect to the song. This is what we often find from artists of this variety; they may not be able to compete vocally with some others out there, and they work hard at forming a different kind of talent. While there are a few voices that get by based mostly on that, we find that the biggest talents out there are those who possess an ability to sing very well, but more importantly find a way to make an audience really care about every word they sing. Despite being only 18, Abi finds a way to do that.
